Next to a small lake outside Töreboda in Västra Götaland, a new guesthouse is being added to a holiday home from the early 1900s.
The house is clad in the same style as the existing building, with a façade made of vertically installed red-painted wood paneling and a roof of reclaimed bricks. Its elongated form mirrors the existing outbuilding located at the other end of the property, together resembling two wings to the taller main building.
The guesthouse represents a new approach to the site and spatial organization. The building is designed as a post-and-beam structure with a plan based on five rectangles of the same width, which step down as the land slopes toward the lake. This results in lower ceiling heights in the private areas and higher ceilings in the kitchen and living room. Two rectangles in the center of the house are covered with a loft that can be used as an extra bedroom, playroom, or for storage.
