IKEA’s decision to invest long-term in its operations in Älmhult has led to an influx of highly skilled workers from around the world and a couple from London has settled in the small village of Liatorp, outside Älmhult, and wants to build a small guest house where they can work, host family and friends on visits, and arrange workshops.
Our proposal is based on a simple plan structure, where the different desired functions are placed sequentially, creating a long and narrow building. This way, a large, high-quality garden can be preserved while ensuring that all the house’s rooms have a strong connection to the forest grove at the rear. A loft above the bedroom and bathroom section provides additional sleeping spaces.
The building’s simple volume connects to the agricultural character of the area’s ancillary structures. The building is constructed with a frame of solid wood elements, clad with facade plywood and a roof made of sinus-corrugated metal. A single big fixed window and a solid wood door open the house towards the garden.
